RICHARD D. LEE VETERAN-TO-VETERAN MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
The Richard D. Lee Veteran-to-Veteran Mentorship Program is a prevention and early intervention program designed to help veterans adjust to life after service. This can mean support in establishing a healthy routine, dealing with mental health issues or diagnosis, or building new communities.
Having the support of a mentor, in a non-clinical setting, can help reduce the risk of suicide, reduce risky substance abuse, and ensure that we have fewer veterans slipping through the cracks between the mental health agencies and VA systems of care. We work to:
- Embrace those who served by providing support, as well as mentoring and fostering relationships between local veterans and the community;
- Encourage veteran-to-veteran camaraderie; identify needs and gaps in current veteran resources and work to improve them on an individual basis, form support groups and provide social event opportunities for our local veterans;
- Advocate on behalf of all veterans and assist veterans of all ages in any way that we can; and,
- Help veterans transition from active duty to civilian life by connecting them to our network of community partners, and veteran mentors
